Empties, Products I've Used Up + Summer 2017 Skin Care Routine

Hello again!

It's been a good two years since I last updated my skin care routine, and it's been a while since I told you about some of my empties - so why not combine the two.

Let's start with empties.

Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream by L'Oreal is a good day cream, but it doesn't absorb into my face as fast as I would like and left it feeling a little too oily than I would prefer. Probably wouldn't buy again...

And now for (empty) skin care.

During high school, I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have too much acne. Maybe it's partially thanks to birth control. But I was only acne prone during puberty, at which time I had bangs which I think contributed to my forehead breakouts. Once I got to college, my acne took a turn for the worse. I looked at facial mapping, watched beauty influencers on YouTube for the best products, and went to a couple dermatologists. What the dermatologists forgot to account for was my change in location. I recently graduated from college and got away from dorm water, which honestly I think made the most difference.

I suspect that I had hard water at school, and when you have hard water and are using it in your beauty routines it throws off the pH balance of your skin. This makes it easier for acne to develop. The effects of hard water differ from person to person, and boy did it affect me. Now that I'm away from that water, my skin is seriously calming down. But I still have a simple skincare routine.

I still use the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (Normal to Oily Skin) + Clarisonic. However, I only do this in the shower, when my face can get a good deep clean. And based on how often I shower I do this about 2-3 times a week (I don't do it every time I shower).

My new products are from the L'Bri skincare line. The reason I like L'Bri is that the first ingredient isn't water (a filler) it's actually aloe vera (aloe barbadensis - the best of the best). Even off the top of your head, you can probably think of reasons aloe is better than water. It's been used for years and I've finally realized why. Originally I thought my CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser was gentle, but after trying L'Bri I realize there was something better. My face doesn't feel stripped at all. The scent (if there is one) is light. And my face just feels good overall.

This is the trial size/ set. I got a different set for my oily/combination skin.

I tried L'Bri's trial pack just before graduation in hopes to calm down my acne before I walked across the stage. Aloe has "unique healing and rejuvenating properties...that heal, hydrate, and nourish your skin. L'Bri's skincare doesn't include petrolatum, mineral oil (which can attract dirt), hard detergents (SLS), or freeze dried aloe powders. The following are ingredients found in L'Bri products...

  • Aloe Gel vs Water
  • Restoring Herbs vs Wax or
  • Rejuvenating Vitamins vs Drying Alcohols
  • Fruit and Plant Essences vs Synthetic Fragrances
  • Natural Botanicals vs Artificial FD&C Dyes
  • Safe, Food-Grade Preservatives vs Harmful/Toxic Preservatives
The trial included a face wash, toner, and lotion (aloe vera jelly). Along with their rejuvenating facial peel and firm eye repair jell. All of which I was impressed by! A skin care set starts at $57, a little pricey for my taste, but it will last you FOREVER. Even my sample pack lasted way more than the 1-2 weeks it was designed for. But as you can probably tell, I love the products.

Separate from the L'Bri products, I bought the E-ra Organics Revive +Microderm Abrasion Manuka Honey Walnut Scrub and Mask. In this product, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice is also the first ingredient. which I love and it's cruelty-free. I've also heard praise of manuka honey around the Internet. I use this product as either a mask or scrub (usually as a scrub). I'll use it as a scrub specifically on my cheeks, chin, and nose. Cheeks and chin because that's where my acne usually appears, and nose to target those sebaceous filaments. Would definitely buy again!

To moisturize my face I use Silk Elements Pure Avocado Oil. It comes in a dropper bottle, so I'm able to put a drop on my forehead, each cheek, and chin. Sometimes I also put a drop in my concealer or foundation if a want a dewy/ glowing finish. You'd think that avocado oil would only make my oily face worse, but because my skin isn't being stripped anymore, my face doesn't have to overcompensate. I can use the avocado oil as a skin moisturizer, massage oil, or as a hair oil to keep my ends healthy. It doesn't indicate anywhere that it is cold-pressed, but for the price, I'd definitely buy it again.
